Gold Bug Mine

Visitors have the pleasure of entering an actual gold mine to get the feel of the Gold mining era. The Gold Bug Mine was opened in 1888 under the name of “The Hattie.” It was named The Gold Bug in 1928 and was in operation until World War II.

The history of this unique area continues to be fascinating.

Self-Guided Tours - Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours of the Gold Bug Mine and Joshua Hendy Stamp Mill. Fees for self-guided tours are nominal, and audio cassettes are available in English, German, French and Japanese for a small rental fee. Hardhats are provided without charge.

Self-Guided Tours of the Gold Bug Mine are offered year around (weather permitting) on weekends, and both the Gold Bug Mine Mine and Joshua Hendy Stamp Mill are open daily from about April through October (see park schedule).
